Abstract:

Elevated amount of the free radicals due to ionizing radiation causes deteriorating damage on immune system. Therefore, we made attempts to investigate the protective effect of vitamin E (vit-E), a biological antioxidant in BALB/c mice, so as to find an affordable prophylactic supplementation for individuals who are at risk. Several groups of mice were selected and exposed to sub-lethal g -irradiation with or without vit-E supplementation. At the end of exposure, mice were immunized by either live attenuated Brucellamelitensis vaccine or sheep red blood cell (SRBC). Consequently, the following parameters were assayed: specific antibody response, delayed type hypersensitivity and lymphocyte proliferation. We showed that vit-E supplementation restored the immune response in g -irradiated mice. These findings might have implications for individuals who are at risk of exposure to ionizing radiation.

Lethal and sub-lethal impacts of lead on some hematological, biochemical and immunological indices in Caspian roach (Rutilus rutilus)

The present study has been conducted on Caspian Roach (Rutilus rutilus) so that the impact of different concentrations lead on blood hematological, biochemical, and immunological indicators could be investigated. The roach (Rutilus rutilus), used in this study, was 3.3±0.3 g heavy and 4±0.80 cm long in average. The fish were exposed to a low concentration of 10% LC50 and high concentration of 5...

Restorative Effect of Vitamin E Supplementation on Hepatic Lipid Peroxidation and Lipid Profile Changes Induced by Sublethal γ-Radiation in BALB/c Mice

In order to find a prophylactic supplementation for individuals who are at risk of exposure to ionizing radiation, we attempted to evaluate the effect of Vitamin E (Vit-E), a biological free radical scavenger, on restoration of hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO) and lipid profile (LP) changes induced by sublethal g- radiation in BALB/c mice. The concentrations of cholesterol and phospholipid were...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.
